Sciatica is one of the most intense pains that a person can have and can put a complete hold on your life. There are no sports, workouts, social or intimate activities being done when a person is suffering from severe sciatica. It typically presents itself as burning, shooting, throbbing, searing, radiating, tingling and can also be numbness down one or both legs, into the gluteal (butt) muscles and sometimes aching, sharp or stabbing low back pain as well. It can often be brought upon by lifting a heavy item, doing yardwork or any activity that has the person bent over forward for a period of time. Others report moving a wrong way and then suddenly having the pain.
The reason the pain is there is due to the spinal disc being compressed and pushing the disc onto a nerve. The "sciatic" nerve which then causes "sciatica" = inflammation and irritation of the nerve.
The solution many times and thousands of times in our office with very high success rates is Spinal Decompression or NSSD - Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression. This is a computerized therapy that a patients lays down onto a table and receives a treatment by gentle distraction of the spinal vertebrae which decompresses and pulls the pressure off of the spinal discs and by turn stops the disc from pressing against the sciatic nerve and the pain is alleviated. During the treatment most patients fall asleep or watch a video on their phone. During the 20-30 minute treatment the disc is getting healed by receiving oxygen, water and nutrients back into the disc and flushing out the inflammation that is adding to the pain.
This procedure has been researched to be highly effective by Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University and Mayo clinic among others. Patients love the feeling of the treatment and the results even more!
