San Diego Back Surgery Alternative Treatment

When Do You Need To Consider Spinal Surgery?

So there are some specific instances when spine surgery may be appropriate:

1. If you have a spinal fracture broken bone). Then surgery may be necessary.

2. If you have an infection in your spine.

3. If you have something called "Spinal Instability", then surgery may be an appropriate course of action.

4. If you are having what's called "saddle anaesthesia '',numbness in your pelvic area, then surgery may be needed immediately.

5. If you cannot pee or poop then you need to go directly to the emergency room and emergency surgery may be required to prevent long term damage.

However, in the absence of these case scenarios, you may want to highly consider trying other treatments before undergoing surgery for your pain. Research does not reveal the best outcomes when we are undergoing surgery for pain alone. Once exception could be made if there is significant muscle atrophy of a limb due to disc compression and nerve compression, then surgery may be required but not in all cases.

So, do yourself a favor before undergoing surgery, be sure there are absolutely no other options and you have tried everything first as surgery may not help your specific condition and it is a major undertaking to go through.

The care I received at Dr. Boelk’s office was so wonderful. I went from having to lay down for several hours a day, to being able to live my life normally, and even began working up my exercise capacity. I always felt cared about, and there was a lot of feedback. The exercise and information Dr. Boelk provides is so critical to maintaining positive results and pain reduction with increased mobility and freedom. All the staff are so caring, and it’s one of the best decisions I made for my back!” - Kaetlyn Hammond, San Diego, CA

“This place is amazing, the staff is friendly and I'd recommend this place to anyone who needs it. I recently discharged from the military with quite a few injuries, and extremely bad back pain. Since then I have seen dozens of incompetent doctors that have had no real interest in treating me, only interest is selling me the next pill or vaccine.

Dr. Boelk is not one of those doctors, this man is professional/ knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients. I have had nothing short of a great experience in this office. His nurse Megan is also very polite and caring for their patients. These days it is very difficult to find a genuine medical professional, so when I do find them I feel that the world needs to know. This man is a good dude.” - Donnie Martin, San Diego, CA

Spinal decompression is a well researched and proven treatment but needs to be rendered in a specific and individualized  way. There is a science, art and expertise as well s extensive knowledge on how to go about treating a patient properly with spinal decompression. Unfortunately many doctors are unaware  of just how many factors need to be considered when entering the settings for each individual treatment and they hav not spent the time, energy or financials to better their procedures and hence their patient outcomes are poor.

There is no downtime, no side effects, the treatment is comfortable and relaxing and most importantly is highly successful. researched and proven proven highly effective by Johns Hopkins, Stanford University, and Mayo Clinic among others, NSSD or Non-Surgical Spinal decompression is highly effective and has zero side effects and no downtime.

We have 5 decompression machines and have 3 machines that help people with their low back pain and sciatica and 2 that help with their neck pain and radiating arm pains.

When looking for help, you may want to consider where would be the best place for you to get help. Where are the staff the most experienced and knowledgeable for the services you are searching for.? You want to be sure it is a good fit for you and that you have the best chance of getting help. Seeing someone who has multiple years of experience in treating exactly what you are dealing with is very important.

We are independently owned and not a franchise. We are the ones who have been utilizing decompression in our office for the past 18 years and have performed over 30,000 sessions. Unfortunately many offices will tell you they have been using decompression for multiple years but have in reality just purchased a franchise that has been operating for many years. It takes multiple years of experience and knowledge to utilize decompression properly, it is not just a modality treatment you incorporate eon your office and then pay a staff member to use on patients. At least that’s how we see it :)

How Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Work?

Spinal decompression was developed by a team of top physicians and medical engineers to bring healing through a unique method. This therapy provides relief to chronic back and neck pain sufferers by reducing the pressure within spinal discs. As the spine’s vertebrae are slowly and gently separated, pressure is slowly reduced within discs until a negative vacuum is formed. This vacuum is shown to reduce the size of existing disc bulges or disc herniations. Significant disc bulge reduction removes pressure off the spinal nerves and dramatically reduces pain and disability. Spinal discs are not able to receive critical components vital to proper disc health when they are injured and in a compressed state. Spinal decompression allows the spinal discs to once again receive water, oxygen and nutrients in order to properly heal, decrease pain and create long term relief.

Advanced, Pain-Free Technology

With spinal decompression therapy, all motion is computer-controlled to provide gentle treatment of injured spinal discs. Decompression techniques separate slowly and cycle between brief moments of pulling and relaxing. As a result, the entire treatment remains pain-free. High success rates with spinal decompression therapy lead many to prefer it to invasive back surgery, spinal injections and pain medications. Call our office today to learn more and see if you’re a candidate for this highly successful treatment!

Traction & Inversion Tables Are Not The Same As Spinal Decompression

There are 3 computers on each Spinal Decompression Machine. One of the computers sole job is to ensure that the muscles in the spine are relaxed. It accomplishes this with a positive feedback loop system. 13 Times a second, the system monitors the muscles to make sure they are not attempting to tighten and cramp. If they do attempt to tighten, the computer recognizes this and adjusts the pressure and pull to lower until the muscles are once again relaxed and then it can increase the pull once again. This way we can always keep the disc in a negative pressure state which is not possible with inversion or traction machines. With true spinal decompression, we can get water, oxygen and nutrients into the disc itself while flushing out swelling and inflammation which is adding to the pain. With traction and inversion tables the spinal muscles are unable to fully relax and thus they stay somewhat activated which then prevents the discs from getting into a negative pressure and healing properly and getting rid of the pain as much as possible.

"Dr. Boelk & his staff are by far the BEST at spinal decompression. I walked into his office unable to sit to do my job, where I was having to lay each day & within a couple of weeks he helped me with being able to sit again. His attention to you & the way he will make you feel is unparalleled. First of all, he has suffered from some severe back issues, so his empathy is very high. Secondly, he is extremely caring & genuinely wants to help people. I've never worked with a doctor who has cared as much and made me feel like I was his only patient before. There would be 4 people there at the same time, and he still made me feel this way. I guess I just cannot thank him enough & cannot recommend him enough. He is an angel on earth. If you visit him, please listen to him & follow his instructions. He knows what's best for you. " - Erin T Rated the #1 Spinal Decompression office in San Diego for many reasons. Here is a quick guide to finding the best office when searching for Spinal Decompression:

1. Does the office specialize In Spinal Decompression or is it just one of many multiple treatments they offer? We have seen many patients come from other offices who said they are specialists and experts in spinal decompression but only treat 3 or 4 patients a day on decompression.

2. Is the doctor or staff actually getting the patients on the treatments? Spinal Decompression is a specialized skill and requires daily decision making and protocols vary from person to person, it is not a one size fits all approach. Many patients come from different offices and inform us they were getting decompression but it was done by the staff and many times they are in pain when on the tables. The treatments should not be painful but feel good.

3. Is the doctor Certified? There are many doctors who are utilizing spinal decompression who are not certified. It is best to see someone who took the time and learned the process and is certified.

4. Do they have a good reputation and reviews that report the doctor and office and staff are looking out for the patient and there is a common theme of the doctor caring and wanting the best for their patients?

5. Experience? How long has the office been utilizing spinal decompression? How many sessions have they performed? You want to see someone who has a lot of experience and knowledge in their field when looking for spinal decompression offices.

Hi my name is Mercedes Bautista.  I found out about this treatment on the internet and I came because I was searching for a doctor for my friend.  I have always had low back problems, so Dr. Boelk suggested that I have an MRI done.  I decided to go ahead and do it and what I found out was astonishing. Dr. Boelk told me I had a bulging disc and that my discs were dehydrated.

I went home very surprised and even scared.

That night with my husband I cried.  My husband and I both talked about it and decided that the finances were worth getting my back fixed.  The next thing we had to figure out was how I was going to get here, because I live in El Centro.

So we decided we were going to rent a car and I travel here 4 times a week.  The girls here are wonderful and very awesome.  They make you feel like family, it’s an extremely relaxing environment.  I feel better and I have recommended this treatment to my family and friends.  Thank You !
