WHAT IS SCIATICA?

Sciatica is not actually a diagnosis.

Sciatica is a symptom.

It occurs when a nerve in the lower back becomes irritated.

Common causes include:

  • Herniated Discs
  • Disc Bulges
  • Disc Extrusions
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Foraminal Stenosis
  • Spinal Stenosis

When these structures begin irritating a nerve, symptoms may travel:

✔ Into The Buttock

✔ Down The Leg

✔ Into The Calf

✔ Into The Foot

✔ Into The Toes

This is why many patients experience severe leg pain even though the actual source of the problem may be located in the lower back.

WHY MANY SCIATICA PATIENTS START LOOKING FOR SPINAL DECOMPRESSION

Many patients report that other treatments helped temporarily.

Common comments include:

"The injection helped for a few weeks."

"Physical therapy helped while I was doing it."

"The medication masked the pain."

"The pain always came back."

Many patients begin researching spinal decompression because they want to understand whether there may be another option before considering surgery.

WHY DISC INJURIES CAN BE SO DIFFICULT TO HEAL

One challenge with spinal discs is their limited blood supply.

Unlike muscles and many other tissues, spinal discs rely heavily upon:

  • Fluid Exchange
  • Nutrient Diffusion
  • Oxygen Diffusion

Think of a sponge.

If a sponge remains compressed, fluid movement becomes restricted.

Many spine specialists believe a similar process may occur within injured spinal discs.

This may help explain why some patients continue experiencing symptoms for months or years.

WHAT MAKES DR. BOELK'S APPROACH DIFFERENT?

Many patients don't realize that not all spinal decompression programs are the same.

Some offices:

  • Have one decompression table
  • Rarely review MRI studies
  • Treat a wide variety of unrelated conditions
  • Perform only occasional decompression treatments

Dr. Boelk's practice is different.

For nearly 22 years he has focused heavily on disc-related conditions.

Over the years he has personally performed:

MORE THAN 100,000 SPINAL DECOMPRESSION TREATMENTS

The office currently operates:

7 DRX9000 SYSTEMS

Including:

  • 4 Lumbar DRX9000 Systems
  • 3 Cervical DRX9000 Systems

Many doctors now travel to San Diego to learn his protocols through the:

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION TRAINING ACADEMY

7 THINGS DR. BOELK WOULD DO IF HE PERSONALLY HAD SCIATICA

1. Get The Correct Diagnosis

2. Review The MRI Carefully

3. Avoid Prolonged Sitting

4. Walk Frequently Throughout The Day

5. Stay Hydrated

6. Avoid Repeated Bending And Twisting

7. Make Sure He Was Actually A Candidate For Treatment

"I NEVER ENDED UP NEEDING EITHER OF THOSE APPOINTMENTS"

**“Last year, I spent three months constantly going back and forth between doctor’s appointments and urgent care. The pain was unbearable—I was taking medication regularly just to get through the day. Getting out of bed was excruciating, and walking or standing felt like torture. Every step filled me with dread.

In December, my doctor finally ordered an MRI. That’s when I learned I had an extruded disc pressing on my L5 nerve, which affects the leg and foot. My doctor scheduled two follow-up appointments: one for pain management (spinal injections), and another to evaluate me for surgery.

Then I discovered spinal decompression therapy. I was thrilled to find a non-invasive alternative.

I never ended up needing either of those appointments.

Now, I’m walking regularly, standing up straight—something I couldn’t do before. When I first sought help, I was so hunched over that I had to use a cane just to move forward. Because of the pain, I hadn’t exercised in months. But now, I’m doing a program called 75 Hard which requires not one but 2 45-minute workouts per day, and I've even gotten back to lifting weights!

I’m so thankful I found this place.”**

— Amanda, San Diego, CA

NOT EVERY SCIATICA PATIENT IS A CANDIDATE

One of the biggest misconceptions about spinal decompression is that everyone qualifies.

That simply isn't true.

Some patients need:

  • Different treatment
  • Additional imaging
  • Further medical evaluation
  • Surgical consultation

This is one reason Dr. Boelk places such importance on proper patient selection.

"WE BOTH DETERMINED THAT SURGERY WAS MY ONLY OPTION"

“I found this terrific practice on social media. I followed up and did my own research so I decided to pay them a visit. The place is clean, well organized and run by a very efficient receptionist. I met with the doctor and after a honest and forthright conversation, we both determined that surgery was my only option to correct my back issues. I will return as a customer when the time is right.”

— Jeff J., Tucson, AZ

WHY PATIENTS TRAVEL TO SAN DIEGO FOR TREATMENT

Patients have traveled from:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Nevada
  • Mexico
  • England
  • Throughout California

Seeking consultation and treatment with Dr. Boelk.

Many are looking for a provider who focuses heavily on disc injuries, sciatica, and spinal decompression.

"HE IS HONEST, HE WILL TELL YOU IF YOU ARE BEYOND REPAIR"

**“There is not enough room to explain the relief Dr. Boelk has brought to me and my entire family. I found him after a year of sciatic pain. Couldn't play the sports I loved, no hockey, golf or surfing. The pain shooting from my hip to my left foot was to the point of unbearable.

So without a doubt, if you are on the verge of surgery, don't do it until you give this Dr a chance to examine you first. He is honest, he will tell you if you are beyond repair.

I trust him with my life and my back. So should you!”**

— Jayson Yavorsky, San Diego, CA
