"Last year, I spent three months constantly going back and forth between doctor's appointments and urgent care. The pain was unbearable—I was taking medication regularly just to get through the day. Getting out of bed was excruciating, and walking or standing felt like torture. Every step filled me with dread.

In December, my doctor finally ordered an MRI. That's when I learned I had an extruded disc pressing on my L5 nerve, which affects the leg and foot. My doctor scheduled two follow-up appointments: one for pain management (spinal injections), and another to evaluate me for surgery.

Then I discovered spinal decompression therapy. I was thrilled to find a non-invasive alternative. I never ended up needing either of those appointments.

Now, I'm walking regularly, standing up straight—something I couldn't do before. When I first sought help, I was so hunched over that I had to use a cane just to move forward. Because of the pain, I hadn't exercised in months. But now, I'm doing a program called 75 Hard which requires not one but two 45-minute workouts per day, and I've even gotten back to lifting weights.

I'm so thankful I found this place. It's conveniently located near my work, which makes it easy to fit sessions into my lunch break. Dr. Boelk and the staff are incredibly friendly and polite—it's always a pleasure to come in.

The environment is so relaxing that I actually look forward to each visit. I truly thank God for leading me to this alternative. It's made such a difference in my life."

WHY DOESN'T A HERNIATED DISC HEAL LIKE A SPRAINED ANKLE?

One of the biggest misconceptions patients have is assuming that a disc injury heals like a muscle strain, ankle sprain, or other common injury.

The reality is that spinal discs are unique.

Unlike muscles and many other tissues throughout the body, spinal discs have a very limited blood supply.

Blood carries oxygen and nutrients that help injured tissues repair themselves.

Because discs receive relatively little direct blood flow, healing may occur much more slowly than many patients expect.

This is one reason why some patients continue suffering from sciatica, numbness, tingling, or back pain months—or even years—after the initial injury occurred.

Understanding this difference helps explain why simply resting, stretching, or waiting often isn't enough.

HOW DOES NON-SURGICAL SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is a computerized treatment designed to reduce pressure on damaged spinal discs and irritated spinal nerves.

During treatment, the system applies precise pull-and-relax cycles designed to gently distract the affected spinal segment.

The goal is not to force a disc back into place.

Instead, the goal is to reduce abnormal pressure within the disc and surrounding structures.

Many patients seeking care have been diagnosed with:

✔ Herniated Discs

✔ Bulging Discs

✔ Disc Extrusions

✔ Degenerative Disc Disease

✔ Sciatica

✔ Foraminal Stenosis

✔ Spinal Stenosis

✔ Cervical Radiculopathy

One theory behind spinal decompression is that reducing pressure within the disc may help facilitate movement of water, oxygen, and nutrients into damaged disc tissue.

At the same time, reducing pressure on irritated nerves may help decrease symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness.

For properly selected patients, spinal decompression may provide a non-surgical treatment option worth exploring before considering more invasive procedures.

"I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Boelk and his staff at The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center of San Diego. They have a great protocol and the best decompression machines. I've been to other places with sub par machines and didn't get any benefit.

After about 12 treatments the sciatica was gone and I was almost back to normal. Even after the first session I had tremendous relief and could sleep mostly pain free for the first time in months.

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and Dr. Boelk truly cares about his patients and their outcomes.

I am now back to traveling, hiking, sleeping, and enjoying life again.

If you're considering spinal decompression, I highly recommend taking the time to learn about the differences between systems and providers. It made all the difference for me."

SOMETHING YOU CAN TRY AT HOME TODAY

If sitting increases your sciatica or leg pain:

✔ Stand Up Every 20–30 Minutes

✔ Walk For 2–3 Minutes

✔ Avoid Slouching

✔ Change Positions Frequently

✔ Avoid Spending Hours On Soft Couches

Will this heal a herniated disc?

No.

However, many patients notice temporary relief simply by reducing prolonged sitting and changing positions throughout the day.

Sometimes small changes can make a meaningful difference.

Will They Tell Me If I'm NOT A Candidate?

This may be the most important question of all.

Not every patient qualifies.

Not every patient can avoid surgery.

Not every condition is appropriate for treatment.

A trustworthy office should be willing to tell you when another option may be more appropriate.

"Hi my name is Rosa Algravez. I have suffered from leg numbness and low back pain for 4 years. I haven't been able to do groceries or even take baths without pain. I looked for relief with various doctors with no luck. I have done treatments ranging from chiropractic to acupuncture.

My husband found Dr. Boelk and we decided since we had tried everything else that we were going to give this a try. After my first few treatments, I feel as though I have returned to 100%. Life for me is completely different.

My husband and I have returned to enjoying life. We travel 300+ miles from Calexico. I can do things now with little to no limitations. The staff makes you feel welcomed and it's a very family environment. The payments are easy and I would recommend this to anyone suffering with low back pain. Thank you."

HONESTY MATTERS

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I decided to see Dr. Boelk after a pretty gnarly motocross neck injury. At the hospital I was at, I felt I was getting pressured into a surgery which I refused.

Dr. Boelk looked at my MRI images, explained what he saw and potential routes for recovery. He could not treat me as I have to wait until the fracture in my neck heals, but the level of professionalism, compassion, caring and knowledge displayed by him was exceptional.

He also recommended I seek an additional opinion from another neurosurgeon.

My experience was that he really cares and he's not someone who would take advantage of the situation someone's in. I will definitely be back and already recommended him to others as well."
