Disc Herniation Specialist In Kearny Mesa CA

Disc Herniation's are a very common problem and the typical Big 3 treatments for them unfortunately do not yield  the best results many times.

What are the Big 3?

1. Pain medications - these can certainly dull the pain and take the "edge off" but they do nothing to correct the problem!

2. Spinal Injections - these were actually never FDA and are still not FDA Approved to be used into the spine but are performed daily. Some patients get some good relief with these and others do not. The patients that get the relief typically have their pain return and the other issue is these injections can cause desiccation of the discs, drying the disc up and reducing the water content in the disc, That is why you can only get 3 injections each year.

3. Spinal Surgery - There are certainly times when spinal surgery can help and is appropriate. Loss of bowel or bladder function, loss of limb control, severe muscle wasting or nerve pressure that is too great or disc sequestrations with a "free-floating fragment" need surgery. Research reveals however that surgery for pain only does not have great outcomes and even if the patient has relief from the surgery it is typically going to return after 3-5 years. I am currently treating 5 patients that have had previous low back surgeries and are back in significant pain. The surgeries range from 1-6 years ago.

So what is the alternative to the Big 3?

Well it is not for everyone as not everyone is a candidate but those that are have received great lasting pain relief with NSSD Treatment. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression.

This is a treatment that is designed at correcting the disc herniation as much as possible and has been researched to be highly effective by Stanford University, Johns Hopkins and Mayo Clinic. Treatment is very gentle and pain relief can happen very quickly. Decompression Therapy has been around for 20 years and we have performed over 25,000 treatments in the last 16 years with very high success rates. We have a 4 criteria process we have developed which yields us these great results as we pre-screen patients to determine if our program is a good fit for them. The right questions need to be asked to find out critical information from the patient as well as a proper examination.

*Due to current demand, we are limited to the number of cases we can accept and cases are accepted on a first come basis regardless of referral from other doctors, neurologists, surgeons or patients. Thank you for understanding.

"Dr. Boelk & his staff are by far the BEST at spinal decompression. I walked into his office unable to sit to do my job, where I was having to lay each day & within a couple of weeks he helped me with being able to sit again. His attention to you & the way he will make you feel is unparalleled. First of all, he has suffered from some severe back issues, so his empathy is very high. Secondly, he is extremely caring & genuinely wants to help people. I’ve never worked with a doctor who has cared as much and made me feel like I was his only patient before. There would be 4 people there at the same time, and he still made me feel this way. I guess I just cannot thank him enough & cannot recommend him enough. He is an angel on earth."

If you visit him, please listen to him & follow his instructions. He knows what’s best for you.

"Dr. Boelk is professional and kind. He has the health of his patients as his top priority. The decompression treatments, exercises, and diet adjustments he recommended and administered have so diminished my back pain that I can sleep again. Chiropractic adjustments did not help my lower back. Decompression did. I highly recommend Dr. Boelk....
