Runner’s Stretch – Focus on the Back Leg!

In this stretch, we’re trying to get a good release through the hip flexors—you should feel it in the leg that’s behind you, not the front leg.

✅ Hold for 30–60 seconds ✅ Switch sides and do it 2–3 times per day ✅ You can keep your back foot on the ground or rest your knee down, whichever feels better

🔑 Be careful not to overstretch—go to the point where you feel a strong but comfortable pull, not pain. Listen to your body and ease into it!

Tight hip flexors are a common cause of low back pain and stiffness, especially for runners and anyone who sits a lot, which is mostly all of us :)

Why Back Surgery Isn’t Always the Best Option

While surgery is sometimes necessary (such as for spinal fractures, tumors, or severe instability), many cases of back pain and sciatica stem from spinal disc compression—which does not require surgery to fix.

Common Problems with Back Surgery:

🔴 High Failure Rates – Spinal fusion surgeries have a 50% failure rate, often leading to continued pain and additional surgeries (Failed Back Surgery Syndrome). 🔴 Extended Recovery Time – Surgical recovery can take months, requiring significant lifestyle restrictions. 🔴 Risk of Future Surgeries – Once a spine segment is fused, added stress is placed on adjacent discs, often leading to further degeneration and additional procedures. 🔴 Scar Tissue & Nerve Damage – Scar tissue from surgery can irritate nerves, sometimes causing chronic pain. 🔴 Pain Can Return – If the underlying disc compression is not addressed, symptoms may return even after surgery.

When Back Surgery May Be Necessary:

Severe nerve damage leading to loss of bowel or bladder control (Cauda Equina Syndrome) ✅ Spinal fractures causing instability Spinal tumors or infections requiring immediate intervention Extreme structural damage that cannot heal on its own

For most other conditions, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression should be considered before surgery, as it is often highly effective at relieving pain without invasive procedures.

How Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) Works & Why It’s So Effective

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) using the DRX9000 is a safe, proven, and highly effective treatment for chronic back pain and sciatica.

How NSSD Works:

Gently decompresses the spine, creating negative pressure that pulls herniated or bulging discs back into place. ✅ Reduces pressure on spinal nerves, relieving sciatica, numbness, weakness, and back pain. ✅ Rehydrates and heals damaged discs, restoring function and preventing further breakdown. ✅ Releases tension on surrounding muscles, allowing them to relax naturally rather than spasm in response to pain.

Unlike chiropractic adjustments or physical therapy alone, NSSD directly addresses spinal disc compression, providing long-term relief rather than temporary symptom management.

Why We ONLY Use the DRX9000 for Spinal Decompression

At The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center of San Diego, we exclusively use the DRX9000 because it is the most advanced and research-supported spinal decompression system available.

Why the DRX9000 is Superior:

Clinically Researched & FDA-Cleared – Studies from Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Duke Medical Center, and Mayo Clinic support its effectiveness. ✔ Precision Control – Unlike generic traction devices, the DRX9000 applies precise logarithmic pull patterns to maximize decompression. ✔ Non-Invasive, Pain-Free, and No Downtime – Unlike surgery, NSSD requires no recovery time.

We do not use cheaper or less effective traction devices, as they do not provide the same level of precision or long-term results.
